If the commission kept the current millage rate there would be no money for reserves or additional pension costs. “What you set tonight can go down, but you can’t go up,” City Manager Mike Bonfield said. The city expects about 6 percent less in property values.
The good news is it’s the second lowest decrease in the county. It represents about a $400,000 possible impact on the budget, if the city kept the current millage rate of 2.48 Bonfield said.
Bonfield also said there were two other things to consider. First there would union contracts in 2011 with possible pay raises and pension costs. Second he said there is talk out of Tallahassee about freezing local property tax rates.
