2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR CHILD CARE PROGRAM-Registrations for the 2010-2011 School Year Child Care Program will begin on July 26th for children who will be entering Kindergarten thru age 14. Non-refundable annual registration fee is $15 for residents and $100 for non-residents. Program hours are until 5:30 p.m. with extended hours available until 6 p.m. for an extra charge. Hours of registration are Monday–Friday from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
TOT TIME PROGRAM – PREREGISTRATION for the 2010-2011 Tot Time Program are currently being accepted. Hours for pre-registration are from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. A non-refundable annual registration fee of $15 for residents and $100 for non-residents is required to secure a spot. Proof of residency is required for Gulfport residents. The Tot Time Program is a pre-school, hands-on program for children ages 3-5. The program aims to make learning fun for children and helps prepare them for Kindergarten. Two, three and five-day monthly options are available. Program hours are from 8:30a.m.-12:00p.m. Classes begin September 7, 2010. Call 893-1068 for more information.

Lunch & Learn about Medicaid and Long Term Care: Come enjoy a free lunch while hearing about Medicaid and paying for long term care. Senior Center Looking for 100 Year Olds: We only have two residents who are 100 years old? Please let the senior know if you are that age so we can honor you, too!
Items Needed: The Senior Center is looking for the following items for upcoming projects: greeting cards of any kind, gift wrap, bows, ribbon, gift bags, stationary, regular and costume jewelry. Also, anything seasonal: Halloween Thanksgiving, Christmas and patriotic items. If you have any of these items on hand and no longer need them, please consider passing them our way! Thank you.
Lighthouse of Pinellas Visits Senior Center: A special presentation will be offered on Mon. Aug. 9 at 2pm by Lighthouse of Pinellas to help seniors who are blind or visually impaired learn how to manage day-to-day tasks and personal needs using special techniques and devices. Learn how to travel safely and independently, use low vision magnifying devices, and much more! Future classes may be offered at the Senior Center that will focus on living independently if there is an interest. Call the Senior Center for more info.

GEMS Health & Wellness Day Pass: Gulfport seniors are invited to take advantage of our new Health & Wellness Day Pass on the first Tuesday of every month. The $50 GEMS membership fee is waived for this monthly occasion. Round trip: $1.00 to one of the following areas: Senior Center Fitness Room; Gulfport Beach; Gulfport Art Village Courtyard; any of Gulfport’s lovely parks; and Gulfport Public Library. (Small fee connected with the Senior Center Fitness Center). Trips are subsidized by the Gulfport Senior Center Foundation. Call GEMS at 893-2242 for more information.

Transportation for Gulfport Seniors: Gulfport seniors 55 & over who would like door-to-door transportation service for medical appointments, grocery shopping, beauty/barber shops, etc. please call GEMS at (727) 893-2242. Annual membership: $50 and $1.00 for each one way trip. All rides to the Senior Center are free.
Telephone Reassurance: A friendly phone call each morning is available for Gulfport seniors who live alone. City volunteers offer this free service with your safety in mind. Call now for more information.
AARP Driving Classes: are held on the first two Tuesdays of every month from 1-4pm. Call 368-3199 to register and fee info.
Diabetic Support: Our Diabetic Support Group meets every Mon. at 10am. A special presentation will be offered on Mon. July 26 by a diabetic educator. Newcomers welcome.
