Dogs took over Lake Vista Pool on Saturday, June 27, splashing, belly-flopping or just paddling around during the city of St. Petersburg’s first dog-swim day of the season. It was hard to tell who enjoyed it more – the two dozen canines or the several dozen people watching them.
“People want to do things with their dogs,” said city recreation specialist Paula Hahnert. Dog-swim days have been held for years at Fossil Park Pool in north St. Petersburg, drawing hundreds of dogs and people; this year the program was expanded to two other parks, Hahnert said. The next dog-swim day is July 25 at Walter Fuller Pool at 7883 26th Ave. N from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Money raised by the $5-per-dog admission fee goes to the S.P.C.A.
