Friends Kimberly Rifenburg, standing, left, and Alice Ettinger, right, both of St. Petersburg, were among approximately 100 women who gathered at the Philip Benjamin Tower in St. Petersburg for a communal “mega challah bake” on Thurday, October 29.
Challah is a special braided bread served during the Jewish Sabbath and holidays. Working in groups around large tables, the women chatted and laughed while they mixed and kneaded the pre-measured ingredients, which they later took home to let rise and bake. Rifenburg said the two friends attended the festive event “because we like to cook and learn.”
“It’s going to be made into French toast tomorrow for the kids,” she said of her loaf.
