According to the Grand Central District’s website, the contest was a month-long event to determine who makes the best burger. Throughout August, the public was able to try all the participating restaurants and vote online for their favorite burger for the people’s choice award. In addition, three guest judges sampled the burgers and will announce the winner at a later date. The judges will base their burger choice on taste, originality and presentation.
This is the third time in four years The Burg has been awarded with the honor of best burger and beat out other fan favorites such as The Engine Rose, The Queen’s Head and Urban Brew and BBQ.
In the inaugural year of the contest, The Burg’s double-grilled cheeseburger won the award and the next year, the gyro burger took home the prize. The Burg lost out last year, but according to the man behind the bar, Sean Kupper, they “reclaimed their crown” this year with the black and blue burger.
This reporter had a chance to try The Burg’s winning dish, a flaver-splosion of meat and cheese that features a blackened eight-ounce patty smothered with a crumble of blue cheese and topped with bacon. Lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle are added to complete the feast.
Hold with two hands as this monster is juicy and tasty with perfectly seasoned blackened beef. The blue cheese – whether you’re a fan of it or not – adds a boost of flavor and salty goodness on top. Oh yeah, and did I mention the bacon?
Pro tip: Pair with cold beer to enhance the awesomeness of this one.
