Ales and Wild Tails: Diamondback Terrapins

November 9, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join the Center for Biological Diversity and Friends of Tampa Bay National Wildlife Refuges for environmental education, conversation, and beer! This month our speaker is George Heinrich, owner and operator of Heinrich Ecological Services and executive director of Florida Turtle Conservation Trust.

A field biologist specializing in herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians), George will share his stories working with the diamondback terrapin, North America’s only turtle that lives exclusively in semi-salty estuaries along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. George’s interests include the role of education in conserving herpetofauna . He has taught ecology-based courses to students of all ages for over twenty years, and he has received multiple awards for his conservation and environmental education work. Currently, George’s research projects focus on three imperiled species: the gopher tortoise, diamondback terrapin, and Suwannee cooter.
