STILL Aging Gracelessly: 50 Shades of Fay
March 8, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$20
Following last winter’s sold out show in Gulfport, humorist and author Fay Jacobs will be back in town on Thursday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. for an encore performance at the Catherine Hickman Theater (5501 27th Avenue South).
Once again helping to raise money for the LGBTQ Resource Center at Gulfport Public Library, Jacobs will be on stage with her one-woman show STILL Aging Gracelessly: 50 Shades of Fay, based on Jacobs’ four published memoirs, as well as her observations about current events. Tickets for a suggested donation of $20 are available at Gulfport Beach Bazaar (3115 Beach Blvd.) and the Gulfport Casino (5500 Shore Blvd.) or at the door.
This lesbian bride brings something old (the performer and some of her script), something new (lots of fresh material), something borrowed (courage from the resistance), something blue (language about our current events!). The show combines hilarious stories with a personal narrative covering LGBT and relationship issues plus the nationwide march toward marriage equality – and what has been happening since! At its core is the author’s insistence that nothing is ever so horrible if it’s worth the story you can tell. The event has Fay’s signature humor and relatable stories of our community tackling life, liberty and the aging process.
Fay has performed up and down the East Coast, with standing ovations not only in Gulfport, but also The Duplex Cabaret in New York City, the Sage Inn for Women’s Week in Provincetown, an Olivia cruise, in Asheville, New Orleans, Carefree Resort, and more.
Called “the last comic sitting” by one critic and star of “an unforgettable solo performance” by Paul Willis, New Orleans Tennessee Williams Festival, reviews have been stellar.
Comic Poppy Champlin says “You don’t see the jokes coming and all of a sudden she ambushes you!” Michael Gilles of Annapolis Theatre Eleven says “Jacobs is a revelation as a performer, navigating hilarious scenes of relationship angst and the challenges of being a gay woman in mainstream America.”
Come along for the ride as Fay and her wife Bonnie share life in one boat, two condos, two houses, and an RV, loving a succession of Schnauzers, and being domestic partnered, civil unioned and married. From zip lines to skunk sprays, lesbian invisibility to marriage equality, join Fay Jacobs for the journey.
Just ask anyone who saw the show last winter – you’ll laugh and be moved. See it for the first time or come see it again. Heck, if you’re aging gracelessly, you probably don’t remember the jokes anyway! Come laugh again!
The event is presented by the Gulfport Public Library’s LGBTQ Resource Center. The Resource Center provides collections, services and events throughout the year to the local LGBTQ community, its friends and family, and is a project of the non-profit Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library.
