Sunday Morning University, an annual event co-sponsored by two St. Petersburg synagogues, Congregation B’nai Israel and Temple Beth-El, returns to CBI on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Nine professors, all members of CBI, will offer 50-minute courses in three sessions. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. Classes run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. The event concludes with a lunch catered by Jo-El’s Kosher Deli.
Session 1 features Elizabeth Unruh and “Philip Roth: On Being Jewish in America,” Robert Weisberg on “Why the Sea Level Goes Up and Down and Where It Might Be Heading,” and Ellen Podgor on “The 50th Anniversary of the Chicago 7 Trial.” Session 2 includes Joan Epstein’s “Fiddlers and Flying Brides: Marc Chagall and Music,” Larry Green’s “The Big Band: A Cosmological Revolution,” and Jeffry I. Fasick’s “Saving the Whales: Current Ecology and Conservation Efforts.” Session 3 features Mark Walters and “Fake News? How Never To Be Fooled Again,” Stephen Cantor on “The Evolving Earth,” and David LeVine on “Genetic Testing: Welcome to the Future of Medicine.”
