Nuclear Worker Documentary coming to Pinellas Park, FL
The award winning documentary
“The Safe Side of the Fence”
will be screening at The Regal Cinemas Park 16 On January 17, 6:30p
The film looks at our nation’s nuclear legacy from the start of the Manhattan Project to the nuclear industry of today.
World War II’s Manhattan Project required the refinement of massive amounts of uranium, and St. Louis-based Mallinckrodt Chemical Works took on the job.
As a result, the chemical company’s employees would become some of the most contaminated nuclear workers in history. This documentary explores the legacy that St. Louis is still coping with, from workers who became ill, to the challenge of cleaning up some of the world’s first nuclear waste.
Why is this film coming to Pinellas Park?
“The Safe Side of the Fence” also delves into the history of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. A little known Government program that was set up to compensate nuclear weapons workers who became Ill from their work.
The Program has paid out over 14 Billion total in compensation and over 50 million to workers from the Historic Pinellas Plant. We hope the film will provide workers and their family members more awareness about the program and give the community a look into what some of the men and women who went to work to protect this county went through insides these plants.
