The Gulfport Community Players have presented their coveted Cathy Awards for the recently completed 2014/2015 season. These awards, named for the Players’ founder Catherine Hickman, recognize outstanding achievements in design, acting, directing and production.

The 18th Annual Cathy Award recipients are:

Best Lighting Design: Stephen Bell for “Escanaba in da Moonlight”

Best Sound Design: Jay Ashworth and Gay Lora Grooms for “Play On”

Best Set Design: Patrick Brafford for “The Kitchen Witches”

Best Costume Design: Jon Ziegler for “The Cat and Canary”

Best Special Effects: Mason Mills for “The Cat and Canary”

Best Female Bit Player: Gay Lora Grooms for “Play On”

Best Male Bit Player: Chad Maschino for “Escanaba in da Moonlight”

Best Supporting Actress: Jill Finlayson for “Play On”

Best Supporting Actor: Tom Guy for “Escanaba in da Moonlight”

Best Leading Actress: Jennifer Casler for “The Cat and Canary”

Best Leading Actor: Rob Romero for “The Kitchen Witches”

Best Director: Patrick Brafford for “The Kitchen Witches”

Best Production: Eileen Navarro for “The Kitchen Witches”

Separate Cathy Awards are presented for the “Summer One-Acts,” which this year will include 13 short plays being performed July 9 to 19 at the Catherine Hickman Theater.
