Dogs, cats, pigs, horses and even skunks. They were all out Saturday, February 27 at the 12th Annual Gulfport Get Rescued event. Thousands of visitors converged on the city’s downtown for the pet-rescue street fair and fundraiser, strolling up and down tent-studded Beach Boulevard under bright blue skies, oohing and aahing at the animals needing homes and the wares for sale. Many of the visitors showed off their own pets, some blinged out with fancy costumes, sunglasses and faux jewels.
In addition to the street fair, the day’s activities included training demonstrations, a parade of adoptable pets, a Bark-B-Que, music and “Tails at Twilight,” an evening dance and silent auction at the Gulfport Casino. Profits from the events, which were sponsored by the Gulfport Merchants Association, are distributed to non-profit rescue groups.
