“They’ve pinned a lot of medals on me over the years. This is one I’ve never received. It’s a very prestigious honor,” Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent told city council Tuesday night as he presented Sergeant Zachary Mills as the Gulfport Police Department Officer of the Year.
Sergeant Terry Taylor nominated Mills for the honor. Taylor, who has three years service as an officer, he has made the lion’s share of the police department’s DUI arrests, contributing to zero DUI-related fatalities in Gulfport last year.
Mills received a standing ovation for the police officers present at the meeting.
