Six Inches Matters

GULFPORT- The city bent the rules slightly and allowed a resident to build a home on property that the building department told her wasn’t large enough. Angela LePore bought property in Gulfport and demolished the existing house. According to the city’s interim Andrew Salzman, the home was “in deteriorated condition.”
When LePore applied for a building permit to build a new home, however, the city denied her building permit because building officials noticed her property was six inches shy of having enough land to meet requirements.
After LePore’s attorney consulted with the city attorneys, city council opted Tuesday night to grant LePore permission to build a single-family home.
