Excerpts heard at the March 2, 2010 Gulfport city council meeting

“I thought it was nice.” —Councilman Sam Henderson, who worked with Gulfport Montessori Elementary to get student artwork on the walls in council chambers. Henderson said he’d like to see the artwork rotated out with high school student’s artwork.

“It is 10 o’clock Saturday morning starting at the recreation center going up to Little League where you’ll see some very interesting baseball games.” —Vice-Mayor Bob Worthington, about the upcoming Little League parade.

“The mural looks like St. Pete Beach. It doesn’t even look like Gulfport.” —Councilwoman Michele King, who suggested repainting the city council office and painting over a mural and taking down the mirrors that line one wall

“I’d like to thank everybody, all the citizens of Gulfport, for the opportunities I’ve had…it’s been great. I’d like to thank my wife Frances, for all of her patience.” —Vice Mayor Bob Worthington, who chose not to run for re-election and sat at his last meeting as a councilmember Tuesday night

“Bob, I hope you have as much fun retired as you did on this council.” —Councilwoman Michele King, about Vice-Mayor Bob Worthington’s retirement from city council

“I make a motion we adjourn.” —Vice-Mayor Bob Worthington, who historically has the motion to adjourn the meetings. Worthington offered Councilmember Sam Henderson the honors, but Henderson said he didn’t want to take anything away from Worthington’s last opportunity to make that particular motion.
