Members of the Lakewood High School 54th Avenue South Jazz Combo play at a community picnic held Saturday, October 14 at the Boyd Hill Nature Preserve to mark the 100th anniversary of the neighborhood of Lakewood Estates. The neighborhood comprises the St. Petersburg Country Club, its 18-hole golf course and some 1600 homes built in a wide variety of styles on tree-lined winding streets named after notable Spanish people and places. The 54th Avenue South Jazz combo is part of Lakewood High School’s 20-piece jazz ensemble, which will be performing at the Apollo Theater and Lincoln Center in New York City next April.
