A Halloween Party for Paws

October 26, 2016 by Helen J. Simon

Linda Allen, right, of Seminole, laughs as her friend Tricia Nuckols holds a 3-month-old golden retriever in training by the Southeastern Guide Dogs during the sixth annual Party for the Paws Saturday, October 22, at Cage Brewing Co. in St. Petersburg. The event, which celebrated Halloween and the fall season, was a fundraiser for the Pet Pal Animal Shelter and included a doggie costume contest, raffles, food, drink, vendors and activities for kids. The laid-back dog, simply called Puppy since she hadn’t been formally named yet, was wearing a costume. “She’s Wonder Woman or Super Girl, I’m not sure which,” said Allen, a Southeastern Guide Dogs volunteer.

Olive the golden retriever, aka Prince, is dressed for the Halloween costume contest at the sixth annual Party for the Paws held Saturday, October 22, at Cage Brewing Co. in St. Petersburg. The event, which celebrated Halloween and the fall season, was a fundraiser for the Pet Pal Animal Shelter and also included raffles, food, drink, vendors and activities for kids. Olive’s owner, Brandy Arnold of Dunedin, said she made the costume herself as “a tribute, since we lost Prince this year. It’s his Purple Rain outfit.” The costume included a black wig and a miniature replica of Prince’s guitar that she bought on eBay. Arnold said Olive loves the attention she gets wearing her costumes, which Arnold makes once a year. “If I put out a shirt, she jumps into it head first,” she said.
