Watercolor artist Ron Czerniec aims to “Paint the Town(s) With Tulips for April” to help find a cure for Parkinson’s disease by donating proceeds from tulip banners to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The red tulip is the official flower of Parkinson’s. Banners are already being purchased by Gulfport-area businesses and residences, including The Peninsula Inn, Boca Bay Grille, Domain  and Spinnakers where they will be hung outside beginning in April, which is National Parkinson’s Awareness Month … All-new modernized exercise equipment, purchased through a Penny for Pinellas grant, has been installed behind the Gulfport Recreation Center Gulfport Yoga closed its doors on March 11. Instructors will teach out in the community at the Gulfport Beach and St. Alban’s Church in St. Pete Beach beginning April 11 … Fish Bar and Grille, in the space that was formerly Peg’s Cantina and Brew Pub, opened on March 16 with a delayed soft opening and a big crowd … Gulfport Neighbors and BarkBox writer Arin Grenwood have teamed up to create the People ‘N Pets program to help people in need care for their pets. They also pair abandoned dogs with foster parents and currently have an urgent need for foster parents … Get out your faerie gear for the Gulfport Springfest Garden Art & Faerie Festival, April 9 to 10, in Clymer Park, which this year includes the Gulfport Community Garden. Costume and faerie house contests, face painting, performances, food, beer garden and live music await … Top Local Chef takes place at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom on April 24 to benefit CASA. The lineup of competing chefs feature three from Gulfport: Jill and Maria Johnson of Mangia Gourmet, John Riesebeck of Smokin’ J’s and Olive Davis of Stella’s The Gulfport Police Department will take over the city’s crime watch program beginning April 1, which will include a dedicated Facebook page … Help clean up the beach at the Gulfport Neighbors beach cleanup on April 9 … Little Tommie’s Tiki is standing room only for live music on Tuesday nights and Open Mic night on Wednesdays … Boca Bay Grille hosted its popular Yappy Hour on March 25 with a menu of treats created for canine guests. The event is every Friday and part of the proceeds go to local animal charities. … Seen on a t-shirt: Mermaid Hair, Don’t Care.
