A few things recently seen and heard in the Gulfport area…

100_0767 The city of Gulfport commissioned artist Tom Pitzen to create six parking directional signs that will be placed throughout Gulfport, plus a larger downtown sign at the corner of 54th St. S. and 11th Ave. S. at the Pinellas Trail spur. As of this issue, four of the Old Florida-style mosaic signs have been completed and can be seen at the Michael J. Yakes Recreation Center, the entrance to Ibis Park, the corner of 58th St. S. and 28th Ave. S. and Clymer Park … The Gulfport Community Players One Acts at the Catherine Hickman Theater was a hit. Members have until August 1 to vote for their favorite actors, playwrights and directors from the series … There is a movement underway to bring street art murals to Gulfport, particularly along the 49th St. S. stretch of businesses…The Beach Bazaar is holding a raffle to give away a customer appreciation surprise gift basket on September 3 during the 16th annual GeckoFest Street Festival … The Shore Boulevard Improvement Project continues with parking closed east of the Casino and west of the volleyball courts.
