Back to the Patch

October 5, 2016 by Lynn Taylor

The audience relaxed under the trees at The Blueberry Patch while waiting for the open mic to begin.

Fresh off winning three awards at the Creative Loafing Best of the Bay Awards Party, including one for best open mic for poetry, The Blueberry Patch hosted its first open mic of the fall season on October 2. Dozens of people showed up at the Patch to sit under the shade of the trees on a still-warmish October afternoon. Local poet, and the event’s MC, Stone Handy recited his original, eclectic verse often accompanied by a drum and audience participation and peppered with his infamous quotes, including his favorite: “If you can’t stand the heat, don’t start the fire.”

The monthly Ink Tank Literary Afternoons were held at the Neptune Grille during the summer, but will continue at The Blueberry Patch throughout the fall and winter on the first Sunday of each month at 3 p.m.
