St. Petersburg has a new police chief: Clearwater Police Chief Anthony Holloway. Holloway earned his college degree while working his way up through the ranks at the Clearwater Police Department. His achievements include building trust with disenfranchised youths in Clearwater’s less-affluent neighborhoods and, at their request, using part of a polio substation to create a learning center.
Holloway promised he would park his car, walk St. Petersburg neighborhoods, and talk to the residents.
Mayor Rick Kriseman selected Holloway after a national search, although Holloway did not participate in the search.
“Each finalist had their strengths, but ultimately none fit the criteria to successfully meet the needs of our department and our community. This process brought me clarity and led me to realize what we needed most: someone familiar with us, but not of us,” Kriseman said Monday morning. “That someone is Chief Anthony Holloway.”
Monday morning the Mayor’s office promised more would be revealed at a Tuesday morning press conference. The Gabber will keep you updated as we learn more.
