After resident inquiries and letters from Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson and St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Pinellas County Interim County Administrator Mark Woodard has agreed to resume county-sponsored mobile chemical and electronic collections in Gulfport.
“Some safety and access issues …along with low demand” resulted in both the Gulfport and St. Petersburg cancellations, Woodard explained in a May 23 letter to both mayors, but asked for the cities’ assistance “as a valued partner to find a suitable site”for another collection.
Gulfport city staff knew of neither of these issues until after resident Margarete Tober brought the cancellations to the Gabber’s attention earlier this year; until the Gabber asked Kriseman’s office, St. Petersburg also knew of no plans to halt south St. Petersburg collections.
Woodard gave both cities 11 dates from which each could choose a collection date in 2015.
