Kayakers compare the leaves of different types of mangroves during an educational paddle organized by the Boyd Hill Environmental Education Center in Clam Bayou on Saturday, October 21. Group leader Eric Starkweather, a guide and outdoor educator, pointed out various types of flora and fauna as the half dozen kayakers meandered through the mangroves for several hours, touring the rich ecosystem smack in the middle of our urban area that’s easily accessible from both the water and surrounding trails.
