The Oct. 16 Kenneth City Town Council meeting featured a packed agenda, including an extension of pickleball and basketball court hours at Ernst Park.
Town Council discussed other items such as a contract with the new Town Manager, and a five-year Strategic Plan in Kenneth City. Additionally, they examined a waiver of code violation fees for the Kenneth City Driftwood Kava & Coffee Roasters building.
Ernst Park’s Pickleball and Basketball Courts
The Town Council approved an ordinance establishing longer hours for the pickleball and basketball courts at Ernst Park. Now, the courts are available to visitors until 9 p.m., rather than until dusk.
Kenneth City resident Ellen Dalbo voiced concerns regarding lighting and noise affecting residents living adjacent to Ernst Park.
“Did we inform the people that are going to be affected?” Dalbo asked.

“We went through this 15 years ago, and they shot us down,” Dalbo said. “…because the people that live on 47th Avenue did not want the noise and the lights in their house, in their neighborhood.”
“Right now they just play in the dark,” Mayor Zemaitis said. “But we do have plans to add lighting to that park so we can use our facilities a little bit longer and that way we can also have Saturday night art markets or start doing concerts in the park, movies in the park.”
