Jungle Prada Tour
February 14 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Discover a 900-year-old Tocobaga Indian mound in the heart of the city! This private, family-owned property features the best-preserved American Indian site in Tampa Bay. Our guided tour of the large midden mound, village plaza, and surrounding seaside garden tells the story of the Tocobaga people who lived here more than 500 years ago, and offers a window into the history of the bay area. The Jungle Prada Site is also the landing place of the 1528 Narvaez expedition. You’ll hear the story of one of the survivors of that expedition, Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, who walked from Florida to the Pacific Ocean from 1528 to 1536. More than 50 free-roaming peacocks also call the Jungle Prada Site & Anderson/Narvaez Tocobaga Indian Mound home! This historic location was also part of the 160-acre homestead of John Levique, for whom John’s Pass is named. Reservations are strongly recommended. Call 727-430-2677
