The host of the event, the Clearwater-based charity Women With Purpose, says its mission, according to founder Jane Morse-Swett, “is to help cancer patients with no medical financial assistance, as well as helping women that are going through transition.”
The models for Saturday’s show all have their stories, says Morse-Swett. Some are cancer survivors; others endured domestic violence and human trafficking. Their bios, says Morse-Swett, “will blow you away.”
Garments for the event were provided by Lulu’s Bridal & Fashionique from St. Pete Beach and Collette’s Fashions from Madeira Beach. The proceeds from the tickets and silent auction, totaling $5,000, went to helping Women With Purpose support individuals in need from the local community.
In 2-1/2 years, says Morse-Swett, the organization has given out nearly $40,000. A woman recently divorced or a family who adopts a child in need of medical care, says Morse-Swett, may need a hand, so Women With Purpose helps with electric bills or mortgage payments. Other times, the organization funds care for uninsured and underinsured cancer patients.
“I’m very proactive in making sure that our community is taken care of,” says Morse-Swett. “There are just so many people that need help and I believe that we need to give where we live first before we start giving out to other national organizations.”
