Fatal Accident in Gulfport

January 27, 2016 by Colin O'Hara

A fatal accident occurred Tuesday, January 19 in the area of Tangerine Ave. and 49th Street S.

According to press release issued by the Major Accident Investigations Team of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle, a 2004 Infinity FX35, was reportedly traveling westbound on 18th Avenue South towards 49th Street at approximately 3:35 am.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old Shawn Lynch, drove through a stop sign at a high rate of speed, drove across 49th Street and into a grassy area near Tangerine Avenue before striking a tree.

The vehicle was overturned on its side, and Lynch was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

It is still under investigation whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.

Lynch was a resident of St. Petersburg and lived approximately five miles from the accident site.
