Best friends Lauren Kirk and April Lupkey opened a coffee shop in downtown St. Petersburg.
Since the summer of 2025, Lucky Cup Coffee Co. has operated inside the Galaxy Hotel at 101 3rd Ave. N.
Brewing Up a Friendship
The two first met in high school.
Lupkey said their shared love of coffee and creating welcoming spaces inspired the venture, calling the shop a natural extension of their friendship.
“We’re both deeply inspired by nostalgia and the flavors that tell a story,” they wrote on Instagram. “Many of our ideas are rooted in the recipes and traditions we grew up with.”

Lucky Cup Coffee in St. Pete
The name Lucky Cup reflects a personal story for Lupkey, who survived a medical emergency at birth. She said that experience shaped the brand’s focus on gratitude, positivity and community.
Before opening Lucky Cup, Lupkey tested a coffee concept in 2019 at Karma Juice Bar and Eatery in Safety Harbor, owned by her mother, Josie Barber.
