Gulfport City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting Pinellas County Schools’ rezoning effort.
The resolution asks the district to place every Gulfport address inside the Gulfport Elementary School attendance zone.
Currently, elementary-age children in Gulfport split between Bear Creek Elementary and Gulfport Elementary. City officials said that divides families, volunteers, and civic support between two schools.
Ward III Council member Jennifer Webb requested the resolution at the June 2 meeting. No Council members objected.
On June 16, Council gave the resolution unanimous support.
City staff said Gulfport Elementary already serves higher enrollment, offers a Montessori program, and sits in the center of the community.
The resolution carries no direct fiscal impact for the City.
The Gulfport City Council’s next meeting is July 7 at 6 p.m.
