An Arbor Day celebration was held at the Gulfport Dog Park that began with a tree planting by the City Parks Division and Teen Council members. Children from the Gulfport Recreation Center recited excerpts about different types of seedlings, followed by a spectator who performed an impromptu reading of “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. The crowd was treated to a performance by members of the Gulfport Food Forest and their original “Gulfport Tree Lovers Song.” Crea Egan gave away different species of saplings for attendees to plant in their own yards and also invited people to stop by the Community Garden with buckets to bring home some of the 10 yards of planting soil that was recently donated to the garden.
