Gulfport City Council approved a garbage rate increase and updated recreation and Senior Center fees Sept. 15, while also discussing marina rates, plan review payments, a proposed K-8 school, and the former Lions Club property.
Marina Rates Draw Lengthy Discussion
Gulfport City Council amended a proposed marina fee increase Sept. 15, removing proposed commercial marine operation rates from Resolution 2026-65 and leaving those rates for further discussion.
The amended resolution passed unanimously.
Council spent considerable time discussing proposed fee increases at the Gulfport Municipal Marina. Members focused much of the discussion on commercial rates and how the changes could affect existing operators.
Council members learned that 150 Gulfport residents remained on the marina waiting list.

Garbage Rates Receive Final Approval
Council approved the second reading of Ordinance 2026-11, giving final approval to Gulfport’s garbage rate increase. The ordinance passed unanimously.
Mayor Karen Love said the City will hold a Feb. 4 workshop to introduce possible sanitation models.
“One thing for the public to remember: no matter what sanitation model we go to, the amount of trash does not change,” Love said.
Recreation and Plan Review Fees
Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-64, authorizing payment to C.A.P. Government, Inc., a Bureau Veritas company, for plan review and inspection services provided during July, August, and September. The resolution also included an accompanying budget amendment.
Council then approved Resolution 2026-66, updating fees for Recreation, the Senior Center, GEMS and the City’s cultural facilities and events.
K-8 School Discussion
During Council comments, Ward III Councilmember Jennifer Webb raised proposed changes involving a K-8 school.
“We are not zoned to get a K through eight,” Webb said.
She encouraged residents interested in the issue to get involved.
“If this is an issue that you’re passionate about, now is the time to contact our school board,” Webb said.
Lions Club Discussion Postponed
Council was scheduled to discuss the property formerly known as the Lions Club, but postponed the discussion to a future meeting.
The next Gulfport City Council meeting is Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
