Congress designated Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national day of service in 1994. The Corporation for National and Community Service was named as its leader and it has been called a “day on, not a day off,” according to nationalservice.gov.
Gulfport’s Day of Service was kicked off with an invocation and prayer given by Gulfport pastor, Michael T. Culberth as well as a few words from Representative David Jolly before volunteers broke up into groups and made their community better through volunteering with homeless, the elderly, veterans, children and other vulnerable groups in our society.
