The Gulfport City Council’s March 17 meeting marked the swearing-in of Jennifer Daunch and Jennifer Webb, launching a new council term.
On March 10, Daunch won the Ward I Council seat. Webb won Ward III. City Clerk Theresa Carrico swore in Daunch and Webb at the start of the meeting.
Who Is the Vice Mayor?
The council did not vote on a vice mayor. Instead, members discussed how they want to choose the position. They plan to vote on April 7.
Council members weighed two options. They could keep the traditional rotation by ward or move to nominations based on experience or interest.
Love said she wants to know who is willing to serve before making a decision. She noted the time commitment may not work for everyone.

First Remarks
The discussion also turned to meeting procedures.
Daunch said she wants all public comments read aloud, even when they repeat.
“For all of the comments to be read, I would like for that to actually become a rule,” Daunch said. “Even if there are 70 that say the same thing… All 70 of them should be read.”
She acknowledged the time impact, but said hearing every voice matters more.
In Webb’s first comments, she thanked residents for strong turnout in the March 10 election.
She emphasized civic participation and praised the city’s tree inventory efforts.
Webb said she wants to engage more families in Gulfport. She added that she will review issues related to Lincoln Cemetery before taking action.
The Gulfport City Council’s next meeting is April 7 at 6 p.m.
The Gulfport City Council’s next workshop will be March 26 at 6 p.m.
