The Urban Gypsies called a Virginia Reel. Politicians poured drinks. The owners of the Beach Bazaar do-si-do’d.

Just another Saturday night in Gulfport.

After a dinner under the oaks (catered by Smokin’ J’s), Gulfportians and visitors alike filled Scout Hall, where the Urban Gypsies instructed the group on the proper way to reel. After a night of Virginia Reeling, the Gypsies played some original music as well as a few covers.

The Gulfport Historical Society and the City of Gulfport sponsored the event. The Red Hot Tiki provided additional Carolina-style barbecue sauces for the dinner.

The Gulfport Historical Society manages the city’s historical collection and maintains historical archives. It’s annual meeting, open to all members, will take place this coming Monday night at 6 p.m. in Scout Hall.
