Local Crime Watch: August 25

A sampling of police reports from August 11 to August 24 in Gulfport, South Pasadena, St. Pete Beach and St. Petersburg.

Local Store Vandalized

Three incidents of vandalism/criminal mischief involving Cell Phone Solution, 5014 Gulfport Blvd., have been reported:
8/17 to 8/18, from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. – One window had a two- to three-inch hole in the lower part resulting in $1,500 damage. The cause could have been a small rock found nearby that may have been thrown.
8/19, about 3:25 a.m. – The front door window was broken resulting in $275 damage. A broken brick was found inside.

8/21, about 2:10 a.m. – A window pane was broken with what may have been a brick.

The Gulfport Police Department has posted a surveillance video on their Facebook page and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person who is throwing a heavy object at the store. Currently the police have no suspects and no arrests have been made. If you have information to share, call dispatch at 727-893-1030.

On August 16 at about 10:50 p.m., the St. Petersburg Police Department received a call about two men shot inside a car in the parking lot of the St. Petersburg Public Library, main location at 3745 9th Ave. N. When officers arrived, they found two men shot then sent both to the hospital for treatment. On August 17, at 10:18 a.m., Mark Pointer, 25, of Tampa, died as a result of his wounds. The other man, Julius Buchanon, 28, of Tampa, remains in critical condition. On August 17, detectives reported the arrest of Neville Allen Chambers, 22, of St. Petersburg, and charged him with first degree felony murder. On August 19, police reported the arrest of Michael Murray, 26, and charged him with first degree murder and attempted felony murder. Chambers and Murray planned to rob their victims when they met them for a drug deal. During the meeting, Murray shot both victims.


8/11 – Sergeant Marotta stopped a car traveling the wrong way in the 5400 block of Essex Avenue. Driver Joseph Marzilli appeared to be extremely intoxicated and was arrested after a DUI investigation. His BAC was .341/.334, more than four times the legal limit.

8/12 – Tiffany Laws was arrested on theft charges after the manager of the Dollar General store observed her stuffing items into her purse. She was confronted at the front of the store while waiting for a male associate to pay for his items. Laws admitted to stealing the items and said she just didn’t want to pay.

8/13 – Joshua Miller was arrested on an outstanding Hillsborough County warrant for failure to appear on a burglary charge. He was taken into custody in the 1300 block of Hull Street.

8/14 – A resident in the 6000 block of Kipps Colony Drive East reported that someone opened several credit cards in his name and used them at Tyrone Square Mall.

8/15 – Officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of 31st Avenue after a woman reported that her father was missing. The investigation revealed that the man had taken a plane to Tennessee and simply not told anyone.
