Elderly neglect death update

One of two women charged in connection with the death of an elderly Gulfport resident in a roach-infested home in June has been released from prison but the other remains incarcerated, police said Tuesday, August 2.

Debra Germaine Poulos, 61, and Jennifer Susan Poulos, 41, were arrested June 24 and charged with neglect of an elderly person in connection with the death of Kathryn D. Ashe, 65, at 5320 29th Ave. S., Apt. D, Gulfport. Susan Poulos was also charged with neglect of a child.

Debra Poulos was released from jail on July 30 but Jennifer Poulos is still in jail, according to Gulfport Police Sgt. Thomas Woodman.

“It is still an ongoing investigation and we are awaiting a response from the SAO [State Attorney’s Office] as to how they will proceed,” he said.

The apartment was first rented to the three women, along with Jennifer Susan Poulos’s 4-year-old child, in October 2015. The two Poulos women told police they had moved out of the house 8 to 10 days before reporting Ashe’s death on June 24.

“No Parking” Protest?

Eleven “No Parking” signs were stolen from the 2200 to 2500 blocks of 59th Street between July 22 and 25, about two weeks after they were installed, police said.

“This is not a common problem and may be associated directly to hours allowing people into PYCC [Pasadena Yacht and Country Club],” Gulfport Police Sgt. Thomas Woodman said Tuesday, August 2.

He said there are no suspects but it is an active case. He said the signs were likely stolen by “an angry resident or someone needing to park in that area.”

Intoxicated Woman Kicks Officer

A Gulfport woman originally charged with resisting arrest saw those charges increased to battery on a law enforcement officer after she kicked a policeman in the leg as she got out of the police car.

Marian Ceballo, 57, was arrested at 1:15  a.m. on July 22 for resisting without violence after a bystander flagged down an officer at 54th Street and Essex Avenue and reported a very intoxicated female arguing with a man.

Police said Ceballo refused to identify herself and cooperate. While exiting the police vehicle, she kicked an officer in the leg purposely and was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.

She was released that night after posting $5,150 bond.
