A Not-So-Sweet Surprise
A resident of the 700 block of Gray Street was surprised to find a strange man in her back yard yielding a machete.
On February 4 in the middle of the afternoon, the resident found an unknown suspect in her yard. She ran inside to call the police, but the man was gone once she checked the yard again.
According to the Gulfport Police Department, the man used the machete to chop down and steal sugar cane that was growing in the yard.
No arrests were made. The suspect was said to have fled the scene in a blue pickup struck with his sweet loot in tow.
Woman in Silver Alert Found Safe
A sliver alert was issued on Monday afternoon for a missing elderly woman.
Metha Franco, 88, was found by Florida Highway Patrol in Hillsborough County several hours later.
The Gulfport Police Department reported that Franco, who is said to suffer from dementia, called her daughter at 1 p.m. on Wednesday to tell her she was leaving for a doctor’s appointment. Franco forgot the appointment was for the following day. The doctor’s office, located on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, stated that Franco never came to the office on Monday.
Franco was driving her white 2008 Buick Lucerne and was discovered later on Monday evening in good condition.
