Local Crime Watch: March 3

March 2, 2016 by The Gabber

A sampling of recent police calls and criminal activity in the Gabber’s distribution area.

Gulfport Police Increase Patrol

The Gulfport Police Department is joining several law enforcement agencies in Pinellas County in cracking down to ensure seatbelt usage.

According to a recent Facebook post by the Gulfport Police Department, starting March 1 and continuing through March 14 Gulfport Police Officers will participate in “Click It or Ticket,” increasing traffic enforcement to look for impaired or intoxicated drivers, seat belt and child restraint violators, aggressive drivers, speeding violations, texting violations and every day traffic violations.

This announcement comes only days after Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) recognized Sergeant Michael Marotta.

Marotta was named a MADD Champion for his time and efforts in training and coordinating DUI prevention efforts in Gulfport. The department was also honored for helping to lead the 2015 Walk Like MADD fundraising and community awareness campaign.

For further information on Click It or Ticket, contact Sgt. Marotta at 727-893-1052.
