High School Student Arrested for Shooting Scare

Officers arrested 9th grader Lucas John Clayton, age 14, at St. Petersburg High School, for making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner, which is a second-degree felony. Clayton made a threat to another student saying that anyone not wearing red on Friday, at St. Petersburg High School, would be shot. Then students spread the rumor through texts, Twitter, Snapchat and other social media during the week. Several concerned students and parents alerted the school resource officer, and
the administration and investigators were able to determine Clayton was the source of the threat. Officers arrested him Thursday, October 6. Clayton told investigators he was not serious and meant it all as a joke. Police report this incident is not related to any clown sightings or postings.
