A Gulfport police cruiser became the victim after a man in a stolen vehicle crashed into it on the night of Tuesday, October 31.

“We’ve been getting some questions from residents about police activity last night near Gulfport Blvd. and 56th Street,” read a statement on the Gulfport Police Department’s official Facebook page posted on Wednesday morning.

According to the statement, at approximately 1 a.m., “members of a local task force were conducting mobile surveillance of a stolen vehicle. The operation entered Gulfport, and the driver of the stolen vehicle took evasive maneuvers, eventually driving down an alley in the area of 56th Street and 21st Avenue South.”

The Gulfport Police Department was unaware of the operation as it crossed into Gulfport, and Gulfport Police Officer Justin Guillory was conducting routine patrol in the area.

“As Officer Guillory drove south on 56th Street, the stolen vehicle came out of the alley and crashed into his patrol car, causing the patrol car to then hit another vehicle that was parked on the side of the road.”

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Rodney Allan Foster, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, according to Gulfport police. Officer Guillory had no reported injuries.
