Straight from an opening scene of “Law and Order,” police in raincoats and detectives in drab and wet street clothes are investigating a murder that occurred on 42nd Street, between Central and 1st Avenue South.
According to investigators, a “death investigation” is taking place after a body was found on the street at approximately 6:33 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4.
“Several calls were called in of shots fired from local businesses,” Rich Shaw of the St. Petersburg Police Department said. “When police arrived, they discovered a middle-aged black male in the street on 42nd Street. He was transported to Bayfront Medical where he was pronounced deceased.”
According to Shaw, the victim has not been identified and no suspects have been identified in the case.
“Police are just canvasing the neighborhood right now. The torrential rain doesn’t help,” Shaw said Wednesday morning of the on-going investigation.
