Pharmacy Robbed at Knifepoint

May 4, 2016 by Colin O'Hara

An unknown armed man made away with two bottles of prescription drugs on the evening of April 27 after hopping the pharmacy counter and stealing them at Publix.

The grocery store, located at 1075 Pasadena Ave. S., was open and fully staffed when a man described as a “white male in his early 20s and thin, wearing an orange shirt” climbed over the counter brandishing a pocket knife, according to Sergeant Spencer Gross of the Pinellas County Sheriffs Department.

“He entered the store and was in the store for about 10 minutes before he jumped the pharmacy counter,” Gross said. “He stole two bottles of prescription drugs and was holding a pocket knife in his hand.”

Gross said that there are no indications that he made any verbal threats.

“Once he obtained the prescription drugs, he jumped the counter and exited out of a fire exit.”

Police were immediately called and K9 units were on the scene, searching for the man in the orange shirt, black pants, sunglasses and black hat.

According to Gross, the suspect, who has yet to be identified, stole bottles of promethazine codeine syrup. Gross also stated that crimes such as this are not a trend or pattern in the area.

The suspect, who is still at large, would be facing armed robbery charges once arrested.
