Gulfport resident and author Cathy Salustri signs her new book “Backroads of Paradise” for Steven Best of St. Pete Beach at a reception Friday, November 4 at the Catherine Hickman Theater in Gulfport. A long-time reporter for the Gabber who is currently the arts and entertainment editor at Creative Loafing Tampa Bay, Salustri said she is currently putting together material for a book based on stories she wrote while reporting in Gulfport. The working title is “Adventures in Small Town Paradise.”
“You may find yourself in it,” she jokingly warned local residents.
“Backroads of Paradise” is about her experiences retracing tours detailed in the depression-era Works Progress Administration’s Federal Writers’ Project Guide to 1930s Florida.
