After a two and a half hour romp through Gulfport’s downtown, competitors met back at the Gulfport History Museum to tally up points. The Koshlers won with 295 points, easily 20 points ahead of the other teams. To win, they had to seek out the former Rootbeer Barrel, the Swamp Club, and the site of the old Boca Ciega Inn. They also had to sing to the owner of Low Tide, T and Me Tea Company, and they had to sing the Boca Ciega High School alma mater.
Teams came from as far as Sarasota and Palm Harbor for the event.
Although almost all the businesses registered for the business hunt canceled due to staffing or vacation issues, Beach Bazaar owners Biff and Angela Lagan have challenged all local businesses to a rematch.
“We don’t want to win by default,” Biff Lagan said after dinner.
The business rematch will be announced in the Gabber at a later date.
