Just after dawn on Friday, members of the Stetson Law community planted 2,977 American flags on the campus in Gulfport in memory of each of the victims of September 11.
The director of Stetson’s Veteran’s Advocacy Clinic, Associate Professor Stacey-Rae Simcox, was part of the flag-planting ceremony and said, “It is important for the Stetson community to come together to remember this day. Not only because 9/11 changed America and brought us together to help one another but also because many of our student veterans served in combat as a direct result of the events that day.”
After planting the flags, students, professors and administrators observed a moment of silence, reflecting on the events of that day 14 years ago.
The event was co-sponsored by the Stetson Democrats, Stetson Republicans and Stetson Student Veterans organizations.
