Teens from St. Petersburg’s TASCO program took over Crescent Lake Park on Saturday, September 13, for their 12th annual benefit Teen BBQ Cook-off and Yard Sale.
Everything from 1979 Elvis Mania magazines to political pins could be purchased at the huge community yard sale set up along the park.
Edie Schrier sold beads and jewelry, belt buckles, pins and Moringa, a.k.a. “miracle tree.” She said business was “not as good as last year, but still OK.” Schrier said she was glad to participate in the event to raise money for children’s education. “I love this event,” she said.
Teens from local TASCO councils competed for “Best Rib” and “Best Chicken” titles. Tables and tents were set up for BBQ connoisseurs. Inflatables and live music completed the idyll by the lake.
The Teen Arts, Sports and Cultural Opportunities (TASCO) is operated by the St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation and provides stimulating programs for teens in grades 6 through 12.
