A bundled-up Penny Foster of St. Petersburg hands a customer change and a bag during the community yard sale at the St. Pete Beach Community Center on Saturday, January 23. Foster said business was “surprisingly good” despite blustery winds and cold temperatures that had many attendees and vendors wearing winter coats, hats and mittens. “I didn’t expect anyone would come out in this weather,” said Foster, who has had the same outside spot overlooking the water for the past six or seven years at the yard sale. “We don’t usually see white caps on the intercoastal.” While a number of other vendors also braved the weather, the majority were inside the toasty warm gym. The high Saturday in the St. Petersburg area was a sunny 54 degrees, while other parts of the country experienced a massive storm that left some buried in almost three feet of snow.
