One of St. Petersburg’s oldest restaurants, The Chattaway, has been sold and is expected to change hands in August. It remains unclear whether the new owners will continue operating it as a restaurant.
Owner Jillian Frers moved to Florida from England and shaped the concept of the restaurant, established in 1951. Several generations of the same family have operated the business.
The Chattaway blends traditional English tea service with a casual Florida dining experience. The restaurant features an expansive patio, live music, big burgers and an eclectic courtyard with koi ponds and claw-foot bathtubs.
Recent Facebook posts confirmed the sale but did not include details, stating only that regular lunch and dinner service and afternoon tea will continue through at least mid-July. The business also posted that it is hiring temporary kitchen staff.
The Chattaway is at 358 22nd Ave. S.
