St. Petersburg’s Dalí Museum is launching a monthlong Hispanic Heritage Month celebration that runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. According to a press release from the museum, the celebration invites visitors to “discover Hispanic artists and voices through a vibrant lineup of music, film, poetry, flavor, and more.”
The celebration opens Sept. 17 with a free, public Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff Event, described in the release as pairing “a live performance of traditional Puerto Rican Bomba music, singing and dance” with Catalan-inspired offerings from the museum’s Café Gala.
The rest of the schedule, per the release, includes:
- Sept. 24 — A guided South of the Equator Wine Tasting featuring six wines from Chile and Argentina.
- Oct. 1 — A screening and discussion of Luis Buñuel’s “acclaimed surrealist masterpiece,” El ángel exterminador (The Exterminating Angel, 1962).
- Oct. 8 — Poetry at The Dalí, an evening of live readings from poets Virgil Suárez and Carolina Hospital.
- Oct. 15 — A closing Latin jazz performance featuring Fernando Cruz.
Beyond the ticketed events, the release notes that visitors throughout the month can take Spanish-language guided tours of the galleries, enjoy offerings “inspired by the flavors of Spain” at Café Gala, and take part in a themed photo opportunity.
The museum states the celebration offers “a chance to explore Salvador Dalí’s own Spanish heritage, from his Catalan roots to the landscapes and culture that shaped his art, identity and imagination.”
