Lobbyists pitched the Town Council at its the Sept. 11 meeting. Two lobbyists made presentations to the council. Both Capital City and Shumaker Advisors want to represent Kenneth City in Tallahassee.
Lobbyists work with cities and counties to help them get grants and state money, among other things. If the Council hired one, Kenneth City lobbyists would meet with elected state representatives and officials in Tallahassee on behalf of Kenneth City.
Updates with Kenneth City Lobbyists
Capital City noted that “you need a seat at the table” before explaining their services. In Pinellas County, the company has worked only with Kenneth City recently.
Capital City added that they are in good standing with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Delays with hiring a lobbyist are not all that happened at the Sept. 11 Town Council meeting. Read about budgets, town manager candidates, and discussions regarding pickleball and stormwater.
As for Shumaker Advisors, they currently work with four other cities in Pinellas County.
Capital City would charge a monthly fee of $7,000; Shumaker Advisors would cost taxpayers $7,500.
Council member Don Kinney said the Town should hold off on hiring lobbyists until the Town Council hired a town manager. Other Council members agreed; Council tabled the issue.
